Sinking fund investment.
Item three on the sinking fund policy was essential in aiding the growth and construction of the district. Most of the members agreed to reinvest their funds. The schools have saved funds over a period to repay a loan or fund a capital project.
There were no students in the meeting, and there was no reason for them being in the forum. Following the COVID-19 restrictions, only a few teachers were allowed to come for the meeting; the rest of the teachers followed the discussion on Zoom and other Facebook live and Instagram live. At the meeting, teachers also had to sit 1 meter apart and wear a mask to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
The meeting was being recorded to be televised later that evening on the district TV station. The recording was also appropriate for future reference.
The meeting focused more on COVID-19 in schools. The teachers looked at how they could protect students in school from the coronavirus. They highlighted some of the items needed that include water tanks, soaps, or sanitizers. The teachers emphasized more COVID-19 awareness and the wearing of masks.
The item that was the most important is the board policy on transcript and credit for the high school courses that have been completed before grade 9. the board agreed not to restrict high school credit and transcript for courses completed before class nine. Hence, any student that completes courses before getting into grade 9 shall earn high school credit for the courses. However, the board set out the criteria that must be fulfilled to get credit on the high school courses completed. The requirements include grades and credit on the high school transcript if the course’s purpose is to fulfill a credit requirement or high school course. The policy was essential for the students and teachers.
Public comments were allowed in the meeting upon recognition by the chair. The public comment aimed to raise matters not on the agenda to be discussed later. The public also had the opportunity to make comments on the agenda.
One of the major essential outcomes of the meeting is a list of measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Stevensville Public Schools. This is because the number of COVID-19 deaths continues to increase as more people get infected. Children’s safety should be a priority in any school setting.
I will attend a school board meeting in the future if I happen to be a member of the board. This is because members are given a fair chance to contribute their views. The meeting also gives one the skills of being a good leader.
