I enjoy hiking once a while after completing specific projects and milestones in life. The encounter is always great as I get to meet people and experience nature. However, my last hike was not entirely interesting. That morning, the sun kissed the horizon ushering a new day. I gathered appropriate gears for the hike together with friends. In two hours, we were already making our way through one of the local valleys. At the bottom of the valley, the river’s water surface was glass, a spectacle that attracted groups of people.
As we began climbing to the top of the valley, a strong wind swept by. The trees whistled from the wind sweeping past their leaves. Little did we know that the wind current would strengthen. My friend slipped and almost rolled to the bottom of the valley as he held on to a tree root nearby. We realized he was bleeding from the leg after getting out of the valley. We administered first aid before trying to call for help. However, every call did not go through because the area lacked a cell tower.
My friend was in agony, and the only hope was to find help immediately as we took turns carrying him toward the nearest town. I encouraged him to remain as strong as an ox because he groaned in anguish. Unbelievably, we found an old couple headed to town who offered us a lift to a care center. When my friend was eventually diagnosed, the physician said he had broken his left patella. The doctor attributed his youthfulness to surviving the severe pain and loss of blood. Even though he recovered after one month, we have never planned for a hike.
