We live in an era where change and technological transformation has become the norm. Initially, people were living in the agrarian revolution, where agriculture was the way of life. People shifted to factories and industries, which has seen people invent more machines than they can imagine. At the heart of this transformation, the information era was born. People are currently living in the midst of an information revolution, which is more profound than the past two revolutions; industrial and agricultural revolutions. The agrarian society put a value on agriculture as it was the primary means for support and sustenance. The society valued rural society as more superior than urban. Farmers were more superior to the paid workers. That era was then shifted as people started relying on industries for mass production and support populations through labor division.

People might have lost the belief that rural society was superior to urban and farmers, but they have gained other insights. According to Delgado and Veltmeyer, the industrial era brought the usage of external energy sources, mass production of goods, refining of mechanization, advanced automation, among many others (10). Industrialization does not build its economy on land; it’s placeless and displacing. Thus it’s bound to destroy locally adapted economies wherever it goes. The shift has definitely affected how people interact with each other and the environment. People who live in urban centers consume more foods that are durable. Their lifestyle is more expensive compared to people in rural. Societies have evolved and become more heterogeneous (Xu, Jeanne, David, and Suk 90). They cannot know each other as they used to, and they have weaker social bonds.

Today, children are being taught that abundance comes from the violation of limits. No human is limited, and there is more room for technological breakthroughs. Children are being taught to create systems that increase the scale of work, trade, and bring in more profits. It’s all about ideas, big money, big technology, and living large. Children have been taught how to lose the traditional way of thinking and learn how to grow individual freedom and autonomy.
