Impacts of Coronavirus Measures
Since the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan in 2019, countries have taken measures to ensure that there is control of the pandemic. These include social distancing, quarantine, the wearing of face masks, use of curfews to prevent movements, and cancellation of international flights/limitation of movements from one country to another. These measures have had significant impacts on the people, both socially and economically. In this regard, there has been a loss of jobs, increased rate of mental conditions because of quarantine and isolation to prevent the spread of coronavirus pandemic. There has also been the closure of business, as most worldwide cannot operate with the measures. For instance, the tourism industry has taken a huge hit as hotels and restaurants cannot operate when they are closed (Alonso et al., 2020). In this regard, people have lost jobs and a source of income, which further worsens mental problems. In Western nations, the rate of suicide tendencies has increased by 200% because of the challenges people are meeting with the measures put to contain the COVID-19 (Shaukat, Ali & Razzak, 2020). The sectors that have been worst hit by the measures include housing, transport, labor, trade, health, and tourism. There has been a hampering of supply and demand for goods and services.
Minimization of Effects
There are strategies helpful in controlling the impact of the measures being used to control the pandemic. These include the provision of social support system to prevent mental problems and suicidalities that has been affecting the population. Secondly, the government can provide tax relief/economic relief to the affected population to ensure that they are taken care of during the pandemic. It will be possible to establish a group to lead the provision of stipends to ameliorate the affected population, as they can use it in getting food and housing.
