Importance of Good Nutrition for College Students

Our body needs good nutrition; this implies that we need all the vitamins, nutrients, and minerals. Meals need to be planned for by the inclusion of nutrient-rich foods. College students are usually stressed and busy with all studies and other demanding responsibilities. Their busy schedule does not allow them to have proper meals; mostly, they eat whatever they can easily get, which often food with no nutritional value. Good nutrition needs the body to have an optimal function, especially from studies’ pressure and stress. Therefore, colleges need good nutrition to ensure that they continue doing well in their studies.

Weight is an issue for most people; eating well is a key factor in maintaining a healthy weight. Being underweight due to an innutritious diet may cause health issues such as low blood pressure or anemia. Similarly, being overweight because of eating junk food and an unbalanced diet causes diseases like diabetes and cardiac diseases. College students are supposed to have a better weight to ensure that they continue with their studies smoothly. Besides, it is unhealthy for college students to have excess weight since it may hinder them from handling their school workload (Abraham, Noriega, and Shin). This is because they might feel tired all the time if they are obese. Therefore, they cannot concentrate on the studies well, which results in poor performance at school. For example, they can avoid eating foods that contain a lot of fats, such as cheese.

Healthy food improves overall health; therefore, college students need a healthy diet to ensure that bodies remain healthy.  Good nutrition provides physical fitness and prevents diseases. Some of the illnesses they can avoid by consuming better foods are diabetes, various cancers, and heart attacks. These diseases are dangerous and can force a learner to drop out of school (Brossard et al.). This is because some of these illnesses are chronic and can hinder learners from continuing with their studies. For example, cancer is a disease that causes a lot of pain to the patient’s body. For this reason, it can force a learner to drop out of school and seek treatment. People should, therefore, consume a healthy diet to keep the body fit.

Certain kinds of food enable the brain to function properly. This is much needed for a college student to boost their memory (Abraham, Noriega, and Shin). The approach will assist them in remembering the content taught in class, which improves their performance. As a result, they can score high grades in their exams and reduce absenteeism rates in school. This is the reason why the school feeding program should be encouraged. In this case, learning institutions should give students healthy meals that can assist in improving their health.

Moreover, good nutrition reduces stress, so college students should consume a better diet to ease the stress. Most learners are stressed when they lack a better diet. In this case, the diet should contain protein, vitamins, and carbohydrates. The role of proteins is to ensure that the body of college students is healthy. On the other hand, eating vitamins will ensure that college students are free from diseases. Examples of rich foods in vitamins consist of fruits and vegetables. Learners should consume plenty of these foods during their college life. It is because the foods have the potential of safeguarding the health of individuals.

Good nutrition is rich in vitamins and minerals, essential to the body since they help boost individuals’ immune systems. Good nutrition contains all the essential elements such as carbohydrates, vitamins, proteins, and food rich in fiber. Chances of being attacked by various forms of illnesses will decrease. In the future, institutions should ensure that they provide good nutrition to students within their premises; this will ensure that they do not eat unhealthy even when they are at school. Besides, food rich in energy will also give college students the strength required during the learning process. It implies that they can manage to study and concentrate for long hours. This is vital as it will enhance student’s performance.

Good nutrition is linked with good sleep. Research conducted by Ludovic has shown that good nutrition consumption helps the mind to relax at night. When college students eat healthily, they will be able to sleep well. This implied that they would not be troubled by anything except their studies. Besides, having enough sleep at night will enable the learners to concentrate during class hours. It is recommended that college students should sleep for at least eight hours a day. The approach is vital since rest is essential during the learning process. In the long run, learners can record better performance in school.

In conclusion, good nutrition to ensure has many benefits to college students, especially in their studies. It is noted that good nutrition improves the student’s performance. Healthy food also maintains health, risks of illnesses, boost brain performance, and sleep, which in turn, I reflected with higher performance in class. Therefore, college students should keep a note of good nutrition now and in the future.
