Chosen Movie
The chosen Movie is Men Can’t Be Raped, a 1978 Swedish film where Jorn Donner is the director. It uses Marta Tikkanen’s Novel called Manrape (Helin, 2020). The film starts with a woman waiting at the police station; she has come to report a crime. The viewer is introduced to Eva Randers’s story. She is divorced and has been working as a librarian. Eva also has a teenage son just on her 4oth birthday. Eva has a friend, Agneta, who she invites for dinner. During their stay in the restaurant, she meets Martin Wester, who wants to dance with Eva Randers. Even though he orders her a drink, Agneta isn’t impressed and end up leaving the restaurant. However, Eva visits the man in her apartment to have coffee. Martin seduces Eva, but she fights her advances, moving to the balcony. After this, the man becomes aggressive, beating her. Martin ends up raping Eva.
Because of these events, she is shocked, humiliated, and depressed. After waking, she decided to take steps to deal with the humiliation. She starts searching for Martin systematically even though she does not know his name. she follows Martin in his place of work, apartment, wearing a wig so that he cannot identify her. One day, Eva waits for Martin outside his house and decides to confront him about the situation while carrying a gun. Eva tells martin that she is going to rape him. At the station, a police officer bored with her story listens to her story and says men cannot be raped.
How it Navigate Oppressive of Post-colonial and Patriarchal World
In the post-colonial and patriarchal world, there was a common belief that women were facing oppression in society. The post-colonial feminism theorists believed that women faced oppression from patriarchy, which is has been an ongoing event in many nations even though they are taking significant measures to ensure independence. As a result, there is a belief that women are the ones who usually become victims of rape because of male dominance in every society. For instance, the police officer that Eva has gone to report a rape case cannot believe that women are rapists. It is a belief that is caused by the presence of male dominance in various societies. He is bored with the story since he believes that it is a rare occurrence. It is a notion that is caused in societies where there is an increased male dominance and views women as victims. According to the post-colonial feminism theories, the idea of male dominance is a continuing process in most countries even today. In previous times, there has been an establishment of a social order that women were the victims of rape, which has been a common view until today (Kerner, 2017).
