In recapitulation, this essay discusses the effects of historical innovation on transportation on the global supply chain.

Cargo transportation has been made better through historical innovations that ensured faster deliveries of goods to consumers and wholesaler business individuals worldwide. Innovation in the shipping industry has held industrial advancements of cargo ships with more advanced engine capacities that aided faster transportation of goods overseas (Rondinelli & Berry, 2000). Innovation led to advancements in speed engines vital in the transportation of goods faster to overseas consumer countries. Faster transportation by container ships has aided in business growth and circulation of money through faster deliveries to customers. The speed engines have contributed immensely to higher revenues collections in foreign and host countries, promoting global economic growth through enhancement of the supply chain.

Container terminals have undergone a myriad of innovations that targeted the improvements quay and yard productivity. Through these historical series of innovation in container and shipping transportation, the gantry cranes of containers have had enlargements that ensured faster loading hence large capacity in transportation, thus promoting the supply chain. Most cranes have undergone improvements due to innovation and can handle a lifting capacity of 120 tons. Historical innovations have led to the building of faster trains that have been instrumental in the transportation of goods in bulk and faster. Innovation increased technological advancements in railway and trains, hence developing cargo transportation through railway at a more reliable and faster speed. Because of the increase in the number of operating systems and data needed, most companies embarked on innovations to improve communication and connectivity (Rondinelli & Berry, 2000). For these firms to achieve these technological advancements, innovations have taken place to develop an improved digital framework to make better rail transport. Historical innovations led to the introduction of electric trains that have greatly impacted the speed and timely delivery of goods to the manufacturers’ business community. The technological innovations that led to the carriage of the optimal quantity of goods overstretched distances have given train transportation of goods a more competitive advantage over other modes of cargo transportation, thus resulting in the rail network’s growth in the freight movement market (Rondinelli & Berry, 2000). The establishment of electric trains has aided in saving time and transportation of large quantities of goods within a short time by creating rail freight that is vital in improved resource competence and sustainability of cargo transport within the supply chain.
