Disability
Disability can be a psychological or physical disorder that restricts a person’s senses or activities. It can be a short effect that can get treated or long term that is irreversible. The paper discusses questions on disability.
My current perception and frame of reference regarding the people with disabilities are that disability is caused by disturbances in the body processes or structures, which causes abnormality or loss of function of a body organ. I also perceive that the actions of individuals may lead to some disabilities. For instance, excessive use of hard drugs is likely to cause mental impairment.
I know my close cousin by name Reagan, who is suffering from vision impairment. Vision loss affects Reagan with struggles to accept and adjust to becoming visually impaired. Also, he strives to cope up with the new life. He faces a barrier to performing daily activities like walking.
I think my perception of disabilities was framed by how I grew up knowing the impairment is not a curse or punishment from God. I also viewed that infections cause disabilities. Besides, I knew every person is vulnerable to disability.
My elders taught me that I should not victimize people with disabilities. They also taught me that I should not refer disabled peoples as a survivor because whatever occurred to them abdicated their strength and ability to overcome the situations. Also, they taught me to be cautious about using offensive terms.
In conclusion, it is suitable for people to treat individuals with disabilities the way they wish to be treated. Also, people can visit the disabled to strengthen and offer them support. They should also be shown, love.
