Education is a very broad and critical faction of the society as it forms the foundation of our children’s lives hence a great determinant of the type of society we expect to live in future. Teaching and learning do not entirely focus on academic excellence; it also emphasizes moulding the learners into good citizens and enables them to fit in well socially. Thus, the teacher is responsible for instilling theoretical academic knowledge and social values that will allow learners to be acceptable people in any society.
In teaching and learning, we all expect our students to excel in future and become respectable people who have a positive impact on the development of the society. Some of the characteristics I want and can nurture in them include the following because I believe these characteristics are vital in their lives. Therefore, the three most important attributes I consider vital to my students are self-awareness, decision making, and goal setting. With these three attributes, one can overcome any challenge, no matter their differences. For instance, self-awareness enables the person to realize who they hence realize their strengths and weaknesses. Thus, they will utilize the element to overcome hurdles on their path to success. Decision–making comes in handy with the individual’s need to realize what they what to achieve. At times individuals have to choose their paths or way of life to lead a fulfilling life and get out of their parents’ or guardians’ shadows. Hence, I believe making decisions on their own is a step to realizing their potentials. (Mastropieri, M. A., & Scruggs, T. E. (2017). Lastly, goal-setting is vital in every person’s life, disabled or not, because, without objectives, a person is limited from realizing their full potential hence adversely affecting them.
Some of the best teaching methods and approaches that will help my students include extensive use of learner-centred, classroom behaviour management, integration of technology in the classroom and enhancement of cooperative learning. (Gipe, J., & Richard, J. (2018). Integration of these methods and approaches will ensure that all students are included in the learning process hence enhancing their academic and social excellence.
In conclusion, teaching is an extensive concept that cannot be covered in a few questions because it involves more than just going to class and teaching learners about a particular topic or subtopic in their textbooks. However, interaction with teaching personnel, such as veteran teachers enables us to understand the concept better because we learn from their experiences. Therefore, understanding teaching and learning requires an in-depth analysis of all the factions in the educational setup.
