Compare and contrast between Bullshit and Lie.
Introduction
Hi, I am writing this letter to explain the book ON BULLSHIT by Harry Frankfurt briefly. The books give the difference between bullshit and lie. It clearly states that bullshit is a random term that can express something of no literal meaning or used to bring a very conflicting idea that can bring confusion and misinterpretation. The lie is an open term used to deceive since the liar knows the actual truth but goes against it to tell a lie. Harry Frankfurt argues that bullshit is persuading people without caring about the truth of the matter while lying is a way of deceiving, and you still know the fact. Therefore lie and bullshit their idea is to convince the audience to believe in what is wrong.
The author further tells us the similarities between lie and bullshit. In both cases, they usually try to persuade people to believe what they are saying is true. In both cases, bullshiter and liar aim at luring people to their way of thinking, disregarding the truth. Another similarity between lie and bullshit is that the more bullshit and liar aim to get something from their audience in both scenarios. We can, therefore, conclude that both the liar and bullshiter usually disregard the truth.
The writer also explains the difference between bullshit and lie; bullshiter tells a lie without necessarily knowing the truth, while the liar knows the truth but decides to tell a lie. Another difference is that liar spreads the lie consciously but still accept the difference between the truth and false. It is, therefore, liar knows the truth while the bullshiter doesn’t know.
The book also has a fallacy; many people believe that bullshit is worse than a lie, contrary to my opinion. A world that doesn’t accept the facts is worse than one that still accepts the distinction between truth and falsity. Therefore a bullshiter is better than a liar, according to the book.
