Compare and contrast the context diagram and the use case diagram.
There are a lot of diagramming tools in existence today. Some of these tools include; context diagram and use case diagrams. These two diagramming tools have some distinguishing features such as; Use case diagram is mostly used in modelling and analyzing object-oriented designs, whereas context diagram is mostly used in modelling and analysis of structured designs. Object-oriented design refers to the act of using a system to interact with various objects to solve a given software problem. Structured design refers to the placement of a problem into several solution groups (Krainer et al,2017). Use case diagram describes a given system in a more detailed manner as compared to the context diagram
Furthermore, the use case diagrams show interactions between the actors and the objects while no interaction is shown in the context diagram. Use case diagrams may also represent the capabilities of a particular system while in context diagram, only the external interface of the system is represented. In context, diagram arrows show the direction of data flow while in use cases, the arrows show the interaction between the actors and some entities. Despite their distinguishing features, both use case and context diagrams show various actors within the system.
Compare and contrast the three process models: structured English, decision table, decision tree.
- A decision table shows and simplifies different actions and conditions in an orderly way. A decision tree, on the other hand, checks whether certain conditions have been met then represent the solutions in a graphical order while structured English is mainly used in scenarios where a given action or condition needs to be repeated (Li,2018).
- Both structured English, decision tables and decision trees are used to analyze decisions that are structural in nature and document them for future use or reference.
