The article’s context is to depict how quadragenarian and above face challenges in learning institutions and how they solve those challenges without giving up despite the critics they come along. The author also throws the ball to the young generation to work hard to achieve their dreams without focusing on other people’s negative attitudes. Through the article, the author has the purposes for his writing: to talk the modern generation that is never too late to try to do something; despite up and down one can still achieve his or her desired childhood dream, the author gives the young generation hope through his article’s title, ‘I talk pretty one day’ which comes through the struggle of mastering the Art of French language, and you can learn any language in his world of your choosing. The author uses different narrative, persuasive, descriptive (her rabbit mouth), and expository to narrate the story. The story has different tones: depressed, positive, cheerful, angry, and excited. I have learned, despite the circumstances you are in, you must be ready to learn from the past to sharpen the current situation; you should learn to adapt and to relate to different people of a different race, ethics, and to live in any country.

The main points that propose the author were eager to know and speak fluently in French are because the author moved to Paris despite his forty-one year and was able to register and get a student identity card to learn French. The author vividly migrates to a foreign country (French) from the United States to interact with French citizens and classmates to fully comprehend the language. In addition to the above point, her teacher told the author, “I really, really hate you.”  The author never minds her words to the end of given up to French lessons; he continues until he masters the French language’s Art. Also author, despite the teacher’s harshness, describe her by saying, “the teacher leaked her lips, revealing how sad the teacher was towards him. Moreover, the author felt intimidated by how aged he was compared to the classmate; he vividly states that his colleagues were young and beautiful, well dressed, and apparently spoke French excellently compared to him, who could only speak nouns and not even speak correctly. Later on, he felt intimidated because his colleagues were better French speaker than him. Although he faced the challenge of reading and mastery of alphabets, of age and language, David Sedaris managed to be master of his own by hearing and speaking fluently and employed the alphabets he never knew of.

The author’s writing is not effective in achieving their purpose because young generation readers do not enjoy reading for long times; they require reading a brief to the point and short to comprehend easily. In conclusion, why the author finds a hard time passing his message. Also, the big picture provided by David Sedaris sink deep within his humorous writing, and it might take a lot of time trying to understand the messages he is trying to pass through his writing. This becomes a major challenge since, in reading, there are slow and faster readers. Hence the write might get a challenge in passing his purpose for his writing to the reader.
