Evidence-Based Practice
Introduction
The place of work is a hospital setting, specifically in a surgical unit. The team consists of healthcare workers of different professions such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, and physician assistants, thus forming an interprofessional team. The team works in collaboration to ensure quality care is delivered to clients to achieve optimum health. Despite that the team of professionals has been performing well in its roles, it needs to improve making decisions. Sometimes it is challenging for the team to make a final decision since people have different ideas on the discussion. Therefore, the paper discusses nursing actions that can contribute to compassion, advocacy, resilience, and evidence-based practice through interprofessional team support. It also highlights the impact of the nursing actions on client outcomes and the organizational culture.
Compassion
Being empathetic is a nursing action that contributes to compassion when supported by an interprofessional team. Empathy helps nurses clearly understand what the clients are going through and thus work towards providing solutions to the clients’ needs. Implementing appropriate interventions to the client problems promotes the client (Pfaff & Markaki, 017). Also, empathy helps create trust between the patient and the nurse; thus, they can openly communicate their needs. Clients feel secure when they speak a person they trust, which promotes accessibility to health services. The nurse also provides emotional support for clients facing psychological and emotional stress, which helps to minimize stress and issues like depression. Holistic care is thus provided through the coordination and collaboration of the interprofessional team. Being empathetic makes the organization achieve its overall goal of quality care by holistically meeting each client’s needs. Besides, clients can face devastating illnesses and stressful events successfully, thus enhancing well-being. Clients, therefore, trust the hospital and will always access health services from it.
Advocacy
The nurse can achieve advocacy through ensuring safety during service provision. Client safety can be achieved by ensuring that clients are given the right medication while in the hospital setting and even during discharge. The nurse communicates the needs of the client to the responsible health care professionals for them to assist. Also, they obtain clarifications for any conflicting orders to avoid medication errors. Client safety helps prevent the patient from harmful procedures and medications that threaten quality care. Also, protection enhances the optimum health and satisfaction of the patient. Also, it helps in proper documentation in the organization, thus improving communication within the interprofessional team. Coordination is enhanced when the different health workers, such as social workers and nurses, have to work together to meet the patient’s needs during discharge. It thus enhances the well-being of patients, thus improving client outcomes. The information of patients is also protected from unauthorized persons’ access, which enhances the trust of the clients on the organization.
Resilience
Developing positivity in nursing practice helps to promote resilience in the workplace. Positivity involves emotions like joy, love, gratitude, interest, and hope. Despite the workload, nurses and other health professionals can collaborate to prevent either of them from being overwhelmed by work. The staff are usually motivated to work; thus, they provide quality services to clients, improving patient outcomes. Positivity among health professionals helps to build trust among clients; hence they can openly express their needs.
Additionally, health workers can provide holistic care after understanding the needs of their patients. Resilience creates a culture of well-being for the interprofessional team in the hospital since it helps prevent burnout among health care providers (Amsrud, Lyberg & Severinsson, 2019). Besides, a culture of quality is developed since positivity among the health care professionals motivates their work.
Evidence-Based Practice
Infection prevention and control during service provision are essential in the nursing profession that contributes to evidence-based practice through interprofessional support. Nurses implement hand hygiene strategies, administration of antibiotics, and maintaining asepsis during procedures to help prevent infections that threaten client safety and outcome (Larsen, Terkelsen, Carlsen, & Kristensen, 2019). In the hospital setting, applying evidence-based infection prevention measures helps create a safety culture during service provision. Moreover, it ensures, the hospital adopts a culture of well- being. For the clients, implementing infection prevention interventions helps to prevent them from acquiring nosocomial infections. Besides, it ensures clients’ safety during hospital care and discharge, thus enhancing optimum health. Achievement in inpatient well-being promotes client outcomes.
Summary
Nursing actions such as advocacy, resilience, compassion, and EBP are essential in ensuring improved client outcomes by providing quality care. Also, they help an organization to adopt a culture of quality care and optimum health. The aspects of I CARE entail; integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence. ICARE helps nurses to honestly put themselves in the clients’ shoes to gain a better understanding of their needs and utilize evidence-based practices in service provision while respecting their values and beliefs. Besides, it helps nurses and other health care professionals to advocate for client rights through measures like ensuring safety. The utilization of evidence-based findings is crucial as it can influence the support for interprofessional teams in the hospital (Correa-de-Araujo, 2016).
