Two Disadvantages of Electronic Health Records (EHR)
The first disadvantage of EHR is that not everyone on the board has the idea of using electronic health records. Additionally, the implementation will face rejection from some patients and providers in the health care facilities. It may also make the staff give up on using the machines if there are initial technical malfunctions. The solution that is useful to this challenge is ensuring strong leadership in an organization. It will in enabling leaders to act proactively to the change in the management. For instance, an organization with leaders who have experience implementing new information systems in diversified fields may help guide an implementation team.
The second disadvantage is the lack of usability. Physicians may find it difficult to adapt if the EHR system is inadequate to fit the overall workflow. The solution that can be used to the issue is to have a strategic plan. Thus it will require the management to come up with a detailed strategic plan for the activities ahead. It encompasses assigning responsibilities and duties for the team affiliates recognizing the doctor champion and generating a space for dependence and mutual support.
How Health information technology affects the implementation of systems like electronic health records
The HITECH ensures that the implementation of the systems, such as EHR, is in accordance with the standards (HHS.gov 2017). Thus, it positively affects the system’s performance. For instance, it ensures that there is shared decision-making amongst the providers. As a result, it fosters the provision of quality patient care. Moreover, the HITECH offers personalized self-management tools and resources to the organization. It also ensures that the system’s implementation can deliver accessible, accurate, and actionable health information tailored. The HITECH also facilitates the meaningful exchange of health information and the use of health info amongst public health and health care professionals. Besides, it offers novel opportunities to connect with culturally diverse and challenging to reach populations. This makes it to be more productive in the organization they are implemented. Additionally, it enables informed and quick responses to public health emergencies and health threats. As a result, it increases health literacy skills, which equip the physicians and patients with basic understanding concerning the systems. Thus it fosters cohesiveness in the health care organizational operations. The HITECH also provides sound principles in the design of programs and interventions that lead to healthier behaviors. It enables the health care organization to be in a position of delivering accurate and quality services to its clients. HITECH also promotes individual and public health while advancing the accuracy of diagnoses.
Identify Two Channels of Communication That Can Be Used In This Week’s Assignment To Prepare A Stakeholder Engagement Plan
The first communication channel that may be used to prepare a stakeholder engagement plan is horizontal communication (Bright, 2013). The reason is that the stakeholders have almost the same qualification in running an organization. Therefore, the managers have the same level of authority in the organization. As a result, they will be capable of communicating directly amongst themselves. For instance, it will enable the stakeholders to discuss the impacts of the strategy to their operation. It will also lead to cost-effective, stakeholder engagement activities. The second channel of communication that may be used is diagonal commination. The flow of information in preparing the engagement plan will be amongst individuals in different departments.
