Relational RQ and 2-Tailed Hypothesis
The article also sought to evaluate the relationship between current smoking and the associations between demographic factors. Respondents were considered to be current smokers if they smoked at least a hundred cigarettes in their lifetime, or they had smoked cigarettes sometimes during the time of the survey. Sociodemographics such as race, ethnicity, sex, age, household income, and educational attainment influence smoking among the Guyanese participants( Hosler,2017). Therefore, to evaluate these variables, the participants were grouped in distinct ethical categories. However, in the study, a third of the respondents did not report their income. Therefore, this is a research gap that needs to conduct on to evaluate how the level of household income influenced current smoking among participants of different ethnic groups.
Relational Research Question
Sociodemographic characteristics play a crucial role in influencing trends of current smoking among the participants. For instance, individuals with low education tend to be smokers compared to those with high education. Besides, smoking is more prevalent among specific ethnic groups and differs significantly between men and women. Therefore, the relational research questions the study will be: There is an association between current smoking and demographic factors such as age, sex, level of education, ethnicity, and household level of income among adults residents of Schenectady.
Two-tailed hypothesis
The two-tailed hypothesis involves the measure of distribution in both directions (Peskun,2018). Regardless of the hypothesis’s relationship, the researcher tests the possibility of the relationships in both directions( Investopedia,n.d.). In the study of the association between current smoking and sociodemographic variables, the two-tailed hypothesis will be: There is a 50% positive relationship between current smoking and sociodemographic factors among adults’ residents of Schenectady.
