Based on the readings, strategic planning can be defined as a disciplined strategy to making fundamental decisions and practices that help in giving direction and shaping the things that make up an organization, its activities, and the reasons why such decisions are made (Bryson, 2018). It can come to mind as a technique that intends to assist leaders and administrators in determining what they need to do, the manner in which they are supposed to do it, and the reasons why they do them.
A good number of public and nonprofit institutions currently suggest that they have taken part in strategic planning. Therefore, many managers and administrators strive to navigate through an alternative round of strategic management (Bryson, 2018). This suggests that they might have engaged in these strategies before and have the knowledge and experience, but through new arising forms of strategic planning, they decide to abandon the older ways of doing things and undertake new ones.
The significance of strategic planning originates from its power to assist institutions, companies, and communities in predicting and responding to adjustments in inappropriate ways. The environments of both nonprofit and public institutions and communities haven’t just transformed in a dramatic way, but more confusion will probably occur in the future too.
Contracting is one of the strategic planning in public and nonprofit institutions. I have learned that for the delivery of public services by private providers, the individual involved in the purchase must sign a contract between a provider or many providers (Bryson, 2018). The contract serves as the major document for which the interaction among buyers and providers are based. It is an official agreement between a buyer and a provider. It indicates the terms of service delivery or product. It is a way of the execution of contractual associations among buyers and sellers.
Under the classic of administration, I have learned that an individual may be a principle of utility partisan, the moment the approval or disapproval he extends to any form of behavior or any intervention, is determined by the act by which he perceives it so as to reduce the happiness of the community. In short, to its conventionality or unconventionality to the laws or utility dictates.
In any place of work, the issue always arises as a result of small and big arguments between staff. These issues, if not addressed, might end up costing the organization huge profits that cannot be recovered since the teamwork that is supposed to produce the profits has been disintegrated. Therefore, managers and leaders come in to solve such situations. They can only do this if they have properly utilized strategic planning techniques (Bryson, 2018). Strategic planning helps managers anticipate problems before they actually occur, and when they do, they will know how to handle them. For instance, a conflict between two employees will not require a manager to support one side and leave the other, but first, be neutral and try to find the root cause of the problem.
Strategic planning will equally help the manager set rules for the employees to follow and the repercussions associated with breaking such rules. Consequences of going against the rules within an organization make employees afraid of breaking those rules, and therefore, a manager can achieve self-control and moral behavior of employees (Bryson, 2018). These rules and consequences can only be designed if the strategic planning procedures are in order.
In a business, an agreement between a provider and a buyer needs to be documented before the transaction takes place. Documentation will act as future reference and proof that a transaction took place (Bryson, 2018). This prevents organizational issues in a more significant way. Conflicts normally arise between organizations and organizations, institutions and institutions, individuals and institutions, and individuals and fellow individuals due to lack of proper documentation as business transactions take place. Contracting is, therefore, important when it comes to such matters as it ensures that future problems are minimized.
