The video “Chasing the Dragon” is a health-related documentary. The documentary features different people who have been strong addicts of drugs and especially the drugs with nicotine like heroin and bhang. It is an educative documentary especially to the youth on the effects of drug abuse and addiction. The documentary gives some insights on different ages of drug addiction, how many people find themselves in the arms of the drug dragon and also how hard it is for a person who is a drug addict to get off the addiction.

From the documentary, the biggest number of people gets into drug abuse at a very tender age of between thirteen to seventeen years. So many people voicing their experience in the documentary says that they started using the drugs adversely when they were at their early teens and after a few years, they became addicts. The common basic points of indulgence are the beer drinking points whereby the boys and girls in high schools are allowed to drink. I fault the system that allows the kids to mature early than it should be. Just because a kid is at the high school level doesn’t mean they are mature to be exposed to hard drinks. It is through such hard drinks that the illicit drugs are slipped into their drinks and consecutively leads to drug addiction.

Opioids are great contributors to an unhealthy nation which is trapped by the drug dragon’s tail. The opioids are meant to be used for medicinal purposes only and under only regulated prescriptions. Most of the interviewees attest that they got their first drug pills from physicians who told them that they would feel better after taking. They said that they were experiencing pain or some depressive feeling and approached the physicians or some friends noticed their worrying situation. It is from that point when most of them turned to be drug addicts as they found some pleasure and relieve every time they took the pills. This shows that the government should have a controlled distribution of opioids since they are the drugs which introduce most of the teenagers to massive consumption of heroin. The opioids should be used at the most acute stage, not a basic pain which can be controlled using other types of drugs.

Being a drug addict is not fun at all. This can be seen from the responses given by the interviewees on their life story. All felt to regret their tough journey in the flames of the drug dragon and wished if they could stop the addiction at the particular moment. Addiction is a loss to many. Most of them feel to be spendthrifts, job losers and also family losers with most of them living and antisocial life. They feel that addiction has cost their entire life and their major dreams which they had before being trapped into drug abuse. It could be a better deal if the government of the United States of America comes up with juvenile and adult rehabilitation centers with free services to control drug addiction as early as possible.

In conclusion, the documentary is highly educative citing close friends, relatives, and physicians as the key contributor to most of the youth’s addiction. The government has the responsibility to limit the age of accessing alcoholic drugs and also limiting and following up on the distribution and usage of opioids. More documentaries should be produced to inform the youth of the dangers surrounding drug addiction and also that the life of drug addicts is always miserable.
