M 11 Reading
As the reading has put it, Governments around the world are entrusted with the responsibilities of ensuring their citizens’ physicals and heath safety. However, it is very different with cybersecurity. The governments around the world perceive it that is the citizens’ individual responsibility to put in place measures that will limit their exposure to the vulnerabilities that can lead to successful cyberattacks. Such consideration by the government is necessary following the idea that some of the individuals who fall victim to cyberattacks are exploited due to their recklessness. For instance, when one is tricked into falling for ransom attacks, they should be held responsible; imagine if it were the government responsible, it would have to pay the ransom if it was the only way to restore things rightful state. The responsibilities are left with the victims of the attacks. Those found to have orchestrated the attacks are supposed to be held responsible for their actions by answering cybercriminal charges in the court of law.
With the increasing advancement in technology and the surfacing of numerous areas of technology application. There is a need for enterprises to consider employing the most effective measures to prevent and safeguard organizations from cyberattacks. Those organization leaders approaching the cybersecurity issues from a business rather than a technological point of view are doing great. The most appropriate way to combat cybercrime is aiming at preventing the occurrences of the attacks. I think it is wise for business entities to worry about their security since their operation is mainly determined by how secure they are from the likely attacks. To put in place the needed measures to combat the attacks, organizations are raising their budgets with considerable resources allocated to cybersecurity.
The readings have not challenged my assumptions; I know that individuals should be held responsible for the cybersecurity issues they get involved in because their presence in cybersecurity bears their identities as individuals. Therefore, it is their responsibility as individuals to ensure they are safeguarded, and in case of attacks, they remain to bear the damages that might result. Also, institutions are aware of the increased rate of cyber attacks and have measures meant to prevent their organizations from falling victims to the attacks.
I agree with both of the readings. I think it is the personal responsibility of individuals who hold smart devices to safeguard their online presence and ensure they are not exposed to the attacker. In case of successful attacks, the victims remain to carry the damage resulting from the attacks. I agree that businesses are approaching security issues from business and strategic angles rather than viewing the same from a technological point of view.
One of the readings is a journal publication, while the other is an academic text aimed for learning purposes. Finding the strategic voice is the journal reading while it is the responsibility of cybersecurity… is the academic text.
