Abortion.
Abortion is the expulsion or termination of a fetus from the womb. However, it is worth noting that abortions that occur without intervention are referred to as miscarriages. On the other hand, that which a person performs deliberately is referred to as induced abortion. Besides, there is a notion of terming abortion a safe procedure when adequately done and unsafe abortions that frequently results in multiple deaths (Popinchalk et al., 2020). Consequently, there has been a continuous argument for legalization and the making of safe abortion accessible to reduce maternal deaths. Abortion can be accomplished by the use of medication or performed surgery. The combination of prostaglandin and mifepristone has proven to be as effective as surgery that is considered a safe means of abortion. The social perception of abortion varies with different religious and cultural resonates. Some state that abortion is acceptable in poverty cases when the fetus has a problem, rape, incest, or risk to a woman’s life. The matter of whether to legalize or illegalize abortion is of significant controversy. People who support the idea of legalization claim that every individual has the freedom to make decisions concerning their body. On the contrary, the opposing party compares abortion to murder since the fetus is consequently human and has the right to live. The present essay will highlight the controversies in line with the advantages and disadvantages of abortion.
Advantages of abortion.
Research has analyzed various advantages of abortion. The first merit highlighted is that most abortions involve low medical risk. When conducted in the early stages of pregnancy and completed legally, women encounter mild adverse effects (Bombas et al.,2020). Additionally, abortion is an alternative to pregnancy. In an elaboration of this point, some women may not be ready to nurture the child, or sometimes unplanned pregnancies occur. The only option is them terminating the pregnancy. Consequently, it allows women or teenagers to pursue their career goals and work towards accomplishing them. Furthermore, research has suggested that abortion results in a reduced number of crime rates and maternal stress due to inadequate sustenance. The third advantage of abortion is; women have full control over their bodies. It guarantees them chances to decide when and whether to keep the child. Even though abortion is a tough decision to make, research has presented that most women experience emotional grief for a long time. Condescendingly, abortion is an option for women sharing life-threatening situations. This always occurs when the continued keeping of the pregnancy may risk her life.
Disadvantages of abortion.
The significant impact of abortion should be noted is that it’s life-risking and may result in the death of the woman aborting. Similarly, it can result in t psychological consequences. As some studies highlight that women who decide to adopt have little regression, abortion leads t mental health problems like depression. The second disadvantage of abortion is cost-effectiveness. Even though abortion may be cheap compared to raising the child but medically, the procedure is expensive. Besides, health insurance leased does not cover elective abortion (Pinton et al., 2016). In most instances, abortion requires parental consent since its life-risking action. This is a more significant demerit to the teenagers who may want to keep it secret. Additionally, women involved in committing such crimes may experience face stigmatization and isolation from other people. It is also important to note that abortion can lead to the development of health-related impacts. This is because, during the process, a lot of blood is lost, some discomfort like pain also felt.
Conclusion.
To conclude from both perspectives, abortion should be reclaimed illegal to discourage continued deaths from the act. Every child should have the right to life, despite in the womb or outside. Even though every person has the opportunity to make decisions, some should be discerned and regulations implemented. Besides, the demerits of the practice surpass its merits and more life-risking. However, if legalized, the WHO should prevail the instruments for safe abortion without claiming any woman’s life in the process (Pinton et al., 2016).
