PERSONAL STUDY
Before I decided to choose Indiana university, there were two conflicting forces. One of the forces was the society that was represented by my family. My family believed that Indiana university was the best university in the united states because some of my relatives have gone through this university. The family’s forces were so strong that my family never believed that I am mature enough to make a personal decision. Further, my family believed and maintained that one could succeed if they only attend Indiana University. Due to social forces, I was in a dilemma to make a decision or to think soberly. I did not like my family’s influence and forces because I felt that my independence and freedom were under threat from my family.
The second force that influenced my decision to choose Indiana university was a personal choice. When I was growing up, I saw individuals around my community attending the university, and I developed a strong feeling and passion for attending the same university. I also admire students from Indiana university because they appeared professional in their walking style and dress code. Additionally, I observed that most Indiana university students behaved maturely and exhibited a high level of personal discipline within the community. I, therefore, made a personal decision to choose Indiana university to pursue my dream goal.
The two forces from society and personal were so strong that it took me time to make independent rational decisions. Before making a final decision, I made sure that I do not offend my family, and I do not go against my personal belief, passion, interest, and aspirations. I, therefore, had to make a difficult decision to balance between these two conflicting forces. For example, I was brought up knowing that we should respect the elderly, especially our parents. Therefore, it was essential to consider the advice and decision from parents. On the other hand, I believed that I was mature enough t make an independent decision that determines my future. I believed that the future depends on the decision we made in the past. Therefore, I found myself between a rock and a hard stone, not to disappoint my family and not to go against my beliefs.
After long deliberation, I explained why choosing an Indian university was my preferred university of choice. Though it was difficult to convince my family and overcome societal expectations, my family understood and supported my decision. Therefore, I could attend my dream university, and I believed that my future is secure.
