WHY DO WHITE PEOPLE CONTINUE TO BE RACIST
Religion, science, medicine government and philosophy are some of the aspects which were used by the white society to construct the race and racism. Through the religion the white society saw Africans, Indians and Native Americans not to have any soul and were considered as pagans this promoted division of people through religion. Here white people belonged to the catholic and protestants as opposed to African and natives who belonged nowhere in matters of taking part in worship, few Africans and natives were converted to the two religion whereby catholic were against the exploitation of the natives through slavery which made a few number to be converted to the religion but their number was so insignificant that there were also inferior to the white society and no one could be given a senior position.
In Charles Darwin theory of the evolution he stated that the weak species are prone to die and strong ones will survive, this theory of Charles Darwin was not racist but some philosophers and social scientists took advantage of Darwin theory to refer the weak as Africans and natives while the white society as superior and strong meaning white society will rule over the black society [kivel,127]. It is also evidenced 1864 by W.winwood reade who was an anthropologists in his book called the Savage African said that Africans will do all hard work tasks like digging the ditches and watering the desert in return for peanuts. This showed an exactly how Africans and natives were exploited in the hands of white society he further went ahead and said that Africans and natives were just obeying the law of nature. This story was fully supported and believed across the white nation because the winwood was highly valued as a critical thinker and educated too to come with that concept.
Through medicine Robert knox in his book the races of a man argued that the brain and race goes hand in hand implying that people of the color were intellectually dwarfs and that the white society was more superior intellectually as compared to African and natives. This really contributed to racism across the white nation.
Through Eugenics whereby this refers to an approach whereby good genes are encouraged to reproduce together while discouraging bad ones .Here bad ones meant weak genes and white nation also put laws which burned the intermarriage between them and people of the color suggesting that their strong genes cant mix with weak genes[klives,142].
Another reason is that white believed that poverty is well connected genetically and through this they restricted the immigration and if it happened women’s were sterilized to remain reproductive inactive in order not to spread the weak seed by being implanted Norplant pills
Lastly in the book The bell curve intelligence and class structure in America written by the Charles Murray and Richard heinsten states that the poverty is well connected to the level of intelligence and because of that African and natives were poor then their level of intelligence was also low and they could obviously perform low in schools which could later translate to hard in securing decent jobs.
In conclusion through religion Africans and natives were regarded as pagans thus been discriminated. Through Charles Darwin theory of evolution it was twisted by philosophers to mean that African were weak and could not be compared to the white society. Lastly through medicines and eugenics it’s said that African possessed weak intelligences seeds and genes.
