Creating a better online discussion
Online discussions are a collaborative tool that facilitates communication and knowledge creation (Johnson, 2017). Through an online discussion, a person can view content, get information, and give feedback appropriately. Online discussions can be done at any particular place at any particular time since one only needs an internet connection and a computer to start up an online conversation.
How can we create a contractive online dialogue?
Online dialogue can bring many people together from all parts of the regardless of where someone is, so in ensuring that a constructive dialogue is put in place, the participants must feel equal, there should be a proper topic or subject of discussion, the participants must see the need in taking turns when expressing themselves, and the facilitator must put the said points between the lines (Johnson et al., 2017)
What does civic engagement online look like?
Civic engagements include activities such as taking part in arguments, electoral processes, voting. Online civic engagements are important for a group of online platform users. An online platform enables individuals to work towards a particular matter; for instance, when individuals are donating towards a kitty, online platforms play a vital role in bringing people together.
What does it mean to be a digital citizen?
Being a digital citizen laterally means that you can comfortable and responsibly use technology. By this, one can use computers, access online platforms, and engage with society at different levels. Being a digital citizen is an essential aspect of the modern world today. Most of the information is acquired through technology; hence being a digital citizen is very important (Kent et al., 2016).
Ways in which dialogues and discussions can become contractive online
Online dialogues and discussions delicate when the facilitator cannot adequately moderate the participants. For this to happen in a good manner, the online discussions must; start in an appositive manner, with right reasoning and clarity, participants can be reminded of past events, provision of examples or tips on how to reach the goals, and the discussions must be ended with positive notes and encouragements (Johnson et al., 2017)
There are more ways to ensure that online discussions are effectively carried out. These may include; the participants should be encouraged to use proper language that everyone can understand, abusive language should be prohibited, h=the facilitator should know how to handle the participants accordingly (Kent et al., 2016)
