Quality Education Improving Knowledge
Quality education enables people to open up their minds and develop their attributes and skills to achieve their potential as human beings in society. Perceptions towards people with special needs have varied from one community to another. The kind of treatment a person gives to a person with special needs depends entirely on their knowledge over time. Acquiring quality education enables people to have different persons towards people with special needs and learn to treat them well without discrimination.
According to the World Health Organization (2011), persons with special needs are more likely to be treated differently and may experience diverse socio economic outcomes compared to persons without. This can be in terms of education, services offered, healthcare, attention, or stimulation. On most occasions, people with special needs are treated differently, and in some communities, they are perceived as a curse.
Quality education and knowledge will enable me to learn to acknowledge people with special needs without discriminating against them. They are only abled differently; hence they should be treated just like others because being disabled doesn’t make them less human beings. Education will help me understand that disability is not a reason to be denied proper services and be given equal opportunities just like others. It is their human right to access services and be treated fairly, just like others without any form of discrimination.
Education will also enable me to understand what people with special needs require and focus on meeting their expectations. A person with special needs sometimes requires special attention to be identified early when offering them services. It is good knowledge to understand that people with special needs need good services just like persons without.
