Tribal Clashes in Tana River County
Tribal conflicts that often occur in tana river county are a severe problem that should be addressed since these conflicts have caused massive death and destruction of lives and residential properties in the area. This argument seeks to bring peace and understanding between pastoralists and farmers around tana delta tana river county. Pastoralists and the farmers’ community should discuss how they will share the available scarcity resource. The government should also ensure equal distribution of land for both farmers and pastoralists to foster peaceful co-existence.
Pastoralists, which include the orma and farmers, Pokomo are the mostly communities disagreeing and fighting over resources in the delta area. Several arguments have tried to explain how Pokomo-orma conflicts can exbe put to an end without authority interventions with no success. isteThe farmers require adequate cultivation land for their crops, while pastoralists need unhindered access to water and pasture for their livestock. According to Shaiye, A. M. (2013) research, there are still substantial differences in ethnicity. The level of articulating the essential issues remains wanting despite knowing the effects of the clashes.
In tana delta, during conflicts and after conflicts between these two ethnics families are affected in numerous. Many lives are lost, livestock killed, houses are burnt down to ashes, learning activities also get distracted, the residents are forced to vacate their homes for safety, family unity breaks, violation of human and children rights, and lack of food (Hanshi, N. 2017).
Pastoralists and farmers can work interdependently because their activities require the other. Farmers can use animal manure to grow their crops while pastoralists depend on farmers’ remains to feed their livestock. There is every reason for a peaceful co-existence among the pastoralist and the farmers to enable continuity of their generations and development in the area. There is every reason for residence and stakeholders to develop strategies to stop and end these conflicts once and for all.
