Cloud Storage Solutions
For ages, most companies used physical data drives to store their data or information. These drives entailed disks usage to enhance managing, integrating, and copying information to various software. Unfortunately, data inconsistency, redundancy, and limited drive capacity were major problems experienced in the traditional data storage methods; hence there was a need to adopt a more efficient way of storing data. There has been a massive effort from most companies to use technology in their information storage, and one method that has been extensively explored is cloud storage. The need to have storage and data at the same time is vital for every company or country; hence cloud storage cannot be ignored. This paper explores cloud storage as a method and checks some of the solutions for businesses.
Cloud storage refers to the data storage method, where information is stored using remote drives in the cloud used by customers or clients. Cloud storage provides a higher capacity, remote access, and greater bandwidth to its clients than traditional storage devices. Clients may access cloud storage services through API (application programming interface), which may include cloud storage desktop and dedicated cloud computing services such as content management system.
In the modern corporate world, both small and large businesses need to access their data, with no additional costs frequently. Cloud storage provides them with these services to help them keep up with market trends and competition. Due to close to zero client-server maintenance, security issues, and added hardware costs, most businesses are now moving to cloud hosting and storage. Some of the major players in the cloud storage sectors include MSFT (Microsoft Corp), AMZN (Amazon.com, Inc), and Intel (Jones et al,2017).
There are very many cloud storage solutions and services in existence today. Some of these include (AWS) Amazon Web Services. Amazon Web Services offers cloud storage solutions such as Pay as you go. “Pay as you go” as a service enables clients to pay for only those resources they have used without any added cost incurred. When clients store their data or information in the Amazon web Service, they will only pay for the storage capacity they have used; hence this might be beneficial to the client’s business (Tan,2018)).
Furthermore, Amazon Web Services also offers solutions, such as custom pricing. For those businesses in need of customized solutions, custom prizing might be the best cloud solution and service. This service allows the service provider to vary the prices of different resources. The clients can even be allowed Amazon Web Service free tier service to test the quality of the cloud storage service first-hand.
Box is another cloud storage solution used by most companies. This service offers various features such as file sync, secure methods of sharing files, cross platforms and allows some level of admin and IT controls. They offer businesses with two types of plans; a personal plan and a personal pro plan. A person plan offers about 10GB of cloud storage, which is free. This solution and service bring some level of confidence to both small and large businesses since they are assured of their data security.
In conclusion, cloud storage solutions enable clients to enjoy various computing and cloud resources without putting too much pressure on them to pay. The clients are able to access applications, services, and data from any remote location, as discussed above.
