- What is your interest or issue?
Autism is a disease of concern globally. Autism is a development disorder that is characterized by difficulty in communication and social interaction. It is regarded as repetitive and restricted behavior. I read an article where it took the parent up to three years before realizing the autism disorder. The signs are often said to present themselves gradually.
- What are the parts of the interest?
The point of interest is the fact that autism presents its signs gradually. However, this is not the case with all the children. Some kids may have a worsened experience of autism in their social skills and communication after reaching developmental milestones at an average pace.
- Why did you become curious about this question?
I am more curious about autism since it is a highly variable neurodevelopmental disorder. The symptoms may first be noticed during childhood or infancy. The symptoms then follow a steady course without remission.
Exercise 1.2
- What previous knowledge do you have about your interest?
I have previous knowledge regarding the causes of autism. Autism is presumed to have been commonly caused by genetic, cognitive, and neural levels. However, I happened to come across an article stating an increased suspicion that the disease is a complex disorder whereby its core aspects consist of district causes often co-occurring.
- What personal experience you have that influences you about this issue or interest?
The personal experience that I have encountered with autism is whereby I had a relative who was diagnosed with the disease. The diagnosis was based on the behavior and not necessarily the mechanism. We had not realized the disorder in the child until after three years. That is the moment I developed an interest in studying the disease.
- What are your beliefs, biases, and opinions about this interest or issue?
I tend to believe that it is necessary to have an appropriate diagnosis of autism. The children reported having the disorder should be subjected to immediate treatment to prevent it from becoming chronic. Parents are advised not to assume any weird behavior presented by their children.
- What predisposes you to concern certain conclusions about the issue or problem of study?
Most of the children reported having autism are presumed to have inherited the disorder. The disease is genetic and can be transferred from one generation to the other. My niece is a perfect example since he inherited the condition from his mother’s background.
- How will you identify and isolate your personal bias, opinion, feelings, and intuition to preserve your natural position as research?
I believe that I can isolate as well as identify personal opinions, biases, feelings, and intuitions through the gathering of statistical, factual, and credible information on the topic. If the same results are consistent with other studies, then the data is more likely to be unbiased and free of opinions, feelings, and intuition. Ensuring the information comes from scholarly, reliable sources will reduce the risk of biases as well.
Exercise 1.3
- Identify the focus of the area of interest for the study?
The study focuses on autism as a disorder. Concentrate on identifying the causes of the condition. There is a need for diagnosing children with autism. Autism should be considered as one of the universal diseases of concern.
- Are you looking for individuals, groups, or organizations?
I prefer looking for an organization to help me with the study. Looking for an organization is that the organization will sensitize the community at large on the benefits of treating the disease.
- Specifically, name the individuals, groups, or organizations that you plan to study.
The organization I am planning to incorporate in my study is the Center for Disease Control. The CDC is a global organization that can easily influence people to take the issue of autism seriously.
Exercise 1.5
- What is your specific research interest?
The specific research interest is based on the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of autism disorder. Children are the ones who are greatly affected by this disease. Autism can turn out to be a severe issue if no measures are taken on the disorder.
- What contributions to the field make this research important?
This research is essential to the field since it helps society at large know more about the disorder. There was a traditional myth that autism disorder was associated with a curse. Therefore, the research is made to outdo the tale with reality. The success of the study will reduce the rate of mortality among children in the world.
- What are your beliefs, values, biases, and opinions?
The author of the research believes that autism can be treated but not prevented—the disease is unpreventable since it is genetic. The author considers autism more of a disorder than a condition. He also values the life of the children claiming that it is an upcoming generation.
Additional Question: What are your research and null hypotheses?
The research question is: what are the factors influencing autism disorder in children? The objective of the research is to come up with a treatment measure for the condition. The research hypothesis at hand intends to design a drug for the disorder. The null hypothesis makes it clear that the condition is genetic and cannot be prevented.
