Mr. Bruno is a 45 years old man, married with 1 child. He has been in an emotionally abusive marriage for 3 years now. This has led to frustration, and Bruno has been presenting symptoms of mental health disorder. These symptoms range from stress to a feeling of low self-esteem. No medical history, no current medications, and there is no substance abuse.

Diagnosis

Depressive disorder; depression.

Nursing and counseling theories

The combination and integration of cognitive and behavior therapies guided and improved my practicum experience. Analysis of behavioral characteristics and cognitive expressions such as reasoning combined with counseling really impacted my skills. Mental health treatment procedure works best when integrated and applied harmoniously. I understood and practically applied psychotherapeutic approaches to help Mr. Bruno return to a normal state of health.  I learned the impacts and relevance of mental health as far as the current state of health is concerned.

Legal and ethical implications

Like any other medical sciences branch, psychotherapy is guided by ethical and legal provisions outlined in the appropriate documents. Counseling a client with psychiatric disorders requires a high level of confidentiality (Bipeta, 2019). All information that pertains to the health condition and status should be kept private, only known to the doctor and the patient. Mental health also provides provisions that guide the whole process and department as legal.

Therapeutic theory.

As far as the practicum experience is concerned, the therapeutic theory has changed my experience. The diversity of psychotherapy has demonstrated that the combination and integration of various professions gives a wholesome and firm understanding of general mental health. This combination of the clinical and psychological procedures that involve the proper application of the psychosomatic features helps people consider and transform their reasoning standards, emotional feelings, and other interpersonal behaviors. (Beutler, 2017). Through this grounded understanding of this harmonious integration, my practicum experiences have changed, and a deeper appreciation of psychotherapy’s importance. Various therapeutic approaches were found to be of higher significance when integrated and given the first attempt. Cognitive behavior therapy stood out as the first theory during the practicum.  In emotional and behavioral cases, cognitive behavior therapy is the most commonly used psychotherapeutic model (Wheeler, 2014). This follows a confirmed positives result that is achieved when employing cognitive behavior theory. This resulted from the integration of cognitive therapy and behavior therapy. It guides patients gradually and step by step, and it helps them understand their behavioral and cognitive status during my clinical practicum.

Integration of therapeutic approaches.

However, the integration of therapeutic approaches has not been a walk in the park, but through the guidance and the preceptors, I learned and went through it. The outlook and the view of oneself are dependent on emotional feelings and behaviors (Wheeler, 2014). Therefore, therapeutic approaches that focus on changing the behavior and their emotions are considered relevant and appropriate. It helps patients understand the effects and consequences of their thinking and emotional expression. The treatment and outline of cognitive and behavior therapy focus on utilizing internal feelings to induce coping skills in patients to boost their understanding of what is going on. The healing process is enhanced, which really helped me a lot with the index’s mental health during my clinical practicum. I was privileged to learn the necessity of applying cognitive behavior therapy as it’s meant to cover a wide of psychological conditions ranging from behavioral conditions to emotional problems. The treatment and outline of cognitive and behavior therapies focus on utilizing internal feelings to induce coping skills in patients to boost their understanding of what is going on. The healing process is enhanced, and this really helped me a lot with the indices mentally.

Social change.

To address and treat mental illness is directly affecting the social life and determinants of the patient. The whole knowledge and ground through which mental health is anchored lies in the state of social life. By focusing on social change, people are fully engaged in mental health, either positive or negative (Hess et al. 2014). Changing behavior, emotions and interpersonal characteristics impact social change and instills a positive view of life; therefore, dealing with patients suffering from mental health problems requires a conducive and favorable social environment. Through my practicum experiences, I can impact the patients’ social change by making them understand that treating mental health problems is a collective process involving various approaches. All of these understandings required will create a significant social change.

 

 

 

Objectives

My practicum has assisted me with knowledge and deep understanding of various therapeutic approaches and their application. The impact on social change has also been a matter of concern in this experience as it involved practical activities.
