Introduction
The modern world has witnessed a tremendous change in communication that is reliable for businesses. Several entrepreneurs have embraced online technology because it helps them reach many customers(Mutuku, pg.1). The entrepreneurs believe that social media offers the link to cover a larger market. social media examples include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The technology rise started mainly during the year 2006 (mutuku, pg.2). this paper analyzes the significance of social media.

Social media like any other technological advancements has its merits and demerits as discussed below.
Firstly, social media offers an efficient means of minimizing costs and enhancing income. Social media provides medium such as advertising at reduced prices since one needs only an internet connection, electricity, and electronic device. Dissimilar to other means of advertising that require extra costs for television airing services, social is a free avenue.
Another merit involves covering an extensive network. Social media can easily access millions of people around the world. People after opening their accounts can start chatting and communicating with individuals who are further than where they live.

In conclusion, this work covered the advantages and disadvantages of social media in the contemporary world. It was discovered that social media can easily reach people around the world without much effort like traveling. Also, the platform is free unlike other forms of communication. Contrastingly, accessing social media might be quite involving if one is illiterate. Secondly, the avenue is addictive and one might spend most of the time they ought to have spent working in the online medium, thus causing unproductivity in working area/ business. finally, social media is a good thing but regulations need to be put to ensure effective use.
