As the movie starts, SHIELD is aware of the big bad on the war to the pike. Loki and his mind-control minions take the tesseract from S.H.I.E.L.D and threaten unknown ills upon the earth and its humanity. With Loki killing so many soldiers and threatening havoc to earth, Agent Coulson and Natasha Romanoff start forming a team that can handle the threat and take back the tesseract and protect the planet. Natasha skills in combat come in handy during an interrogation scene in the first minutes of the movie and her diplomacy skills when she goes to get DR. Banner to come to help them. As the group forms testing the strength and weakness of each other, Mark Ruffalo takes his rightful place as the Hulk. Their best behaviour characterizes the forming stage in avengers. Being a diverse group, they try to stay focused on the mission seen when captain America asks Dr Bunner and mark to stay focused on the mission. The forming stage in the movie takes about 45 minutes as the viewer’s get to know the character’s background.

Storming in avengers is often because of the high quality personal strong characters among members. Ironman is volatile, Hulk is on edge. Thor is cocky and unaffected. At this stage, there develops secondary tension as all members disagree on what to focus on mainly and their conflicting personalities.

In a group, there are rules formally referred to as norms that establish stander behaviour of members hence norming. In avengers, the team has one goal to create a mutual plan, but things are not aligned. Banner and stark track tesseract while Rogers and Romanoff investigate Loki’s and SHIELDS plans. In one scene, Nick Fury says: I’m not leaving anything to anyone. We need a response team. These people may be isolated, unbalanced even, but I believe with the right push, they can be what we need. 

Disruptive roles serve personal needs impending the goals of the group. In avengers, tony stark can be said to be disruptive. At the beginning of the film, Tony has trouble working as a team and is always finding escape routes. He is not serious about anything and focuses on what he feels best. For instance, in the scene where they first capture Loki and Thor takes him from the aeroplane taking him back to Fury, Tony follows him alone and leaves Steve asking to form a plan. He does what serves his opinion. However, in the end, he helps in defeating the Chitauri.

  1. Avengers is a team of impressive persons who work together to achieve the same goal while facing several challenging goals. They have to acquire tesseract, fight Thor and chitauri to keep planet earth safe. The team has collaborative independence which includes working together if they have to succeed. At the first scene when Thor appears and takes Loki in the forest, Steve and Tony have to fight him to get Loki back.

The second c is complementarity, where team members have different skills to support each to achieve success. Black widow uses her expert tactics to get Loki’s plan in another scene after they have defeated the aliens, tony stark gets weak, but before he falls, the Hulk saves him.

The third c is cohesiveness, where the team has a sense of identity. The avenger’s film even from the title has a name. When Loki escapes from the avengers, they meet with Tony at the Stark, and he tells Loki that his team the avengers will come for him and even with his army they have the Hulk. Tony says that they call themselves the Avengers. He says they are the team of earth’s mightiest heroes.

The last c is the commitment in terms of resources and time. A team requires substantial commitment and long term commitment. The team comes together to use the assembled resources by Nick Fury and dedicate their time to figuring out Loki’s plan to defeat him and the Chitauri. They take time in different scenes to analyze information to figure out things. DR. Banner has a lab. Tony has a house with technological advancements where he analyzes information given to him.

Effective decision making involves a process of analyzing the problems facing a group exploring all alternative solutions using critical reasoning and before making a decision. Defective decision making, on the other hand, occurs in highly cohesive teams settling on riskier decisions. Defective decision making can be caused by a high flow of information, making it complex to filter the useless. The team has a hard time when storming but gets over it ad works together to figure out Loki for instance when Coulson dies, tony and steve are talking analyzing Loki’s actions finally figure it out that is when they set out to stop DR. selvag from executing Lokis plan.
