Success is, in most cases, the product of failure since one has to fail to succeed. The term success elicits different meanings depending on the person answering the question. There are different parameters for measuring success, depending on the individual as well as collective factors. Most people associate success with business only, whereas people become successful in almost all the other areas of life. Success, however, means accomplishing the desired goals and aspirations, meaning one can succeed in multiple areas. Success is defined as the act of achieving the goals set, characterized by goals, aspirations, and patience, similar to the conventional definition, and it can be demonstrated by my Japanese friend, who has remained successful in keeping his language.

Successful people are always driven by a goal in that they have what they want to achieve after a particular period and engage the necessary mechanisms to achieve. For instance, they set a goal of expanding the business to a particular level and not just being rich, reflecting their aspirations. Success is not a one-day event but a journey, and hence patience is a key trait that means that one is successful.

Someone or something is considered successful after making the achievement. In both cases, success depends on a predefined criterion in that when one reaches a certain area; they are considered successful. In both definitions, there is no mention of what is the parameter for success, indicating that it is individualistic and not based on a generally agreed criterion. My definition, however, explains that the achievement is based on a preconceived idea before the start of an event. In contrast, the second definition does not mention the prior concept of achievement.
My friend, who comes from Asia, values his culture very much and has long aspired to practice it even in the new land. According to the friend who comes from Japan, practicing and maintaining his culture in a world where there are diverse cultures is the real meaning of success. Although he does not fully practice his culture, he is conversant with most traditional cultural aspects like language, food, dressing, music, oral traditions, and way of life. The friend is very fluent in the Japanese language, whereas other Japanese students in the US cannot speak the language since it has been overshadowed by new languages in the US. Speaking in the indigenous language is thus one way of successfully and maintaining the traditional way of life. Success, in this case, goes against the conventional standards of being the first since it involves intangible aspects.
