Personal Statement
I gained new experience of making informed business decisions through forecasting. I have known how to predict or estimate the future of a business depending on the past and current data. Project management have made me to ensure what is being delivered is right and will offer actual value against business opportunity. I have gained knowledge of using project management to bring leadership and direction to projects. Leadership enables team members to do their best at any work given to them. I learned that project management offers leadership and vision, coaching, motivation and inspiration to team members to perform their best at work.
I lost to understand service process in an organization. I never understood clearly how a company performs in order customer to receive service. Determining process which make contribution to the procedure was also a challenge. It was a challenge in understanding how customers are kept at bay when goods are manufactured and processes involved that takes place in premises of factory. I did not see the reason why customers rarely comes in contact with manufacturing process yet are final beneficiaries.
My best work in this class was logistics, distribution and transportation. I realized that logistics is vital element of a supply chain that assist increase the sales and profits of businesses that deal with shipment, production, warehousing and delivery of products. Logistics service can improve business’ value and public image. It was interesting to learn that distribution channel enables manufactured goods to reach to customers. Transportation offers important service of linking a company to its suppliers and esteem customers.
My worst work in this class was sales and operational planning. Matching a manufacturer’s supply with demand by having sales department collaborating with operations to come up with a single production plan was my worst work. Data gathering from inventory and current sales and cash on hand was tedious. Sales and operations requires attending several meetings in each month which are time consuming.
What worked out in sales and operations management was strategy. Analysis of performance metrics, coming up with incentive programs and selecting of enablement tools and training requirements was successful.
What did not work out in sales and operations management was balancing the tactical and strategic. It was a challenge to manage a wide range of responsibilities allocated to sales ops while at the same time managing a team with members having different skills.
I would recommend in this course forecasting to be given the most emphasis because it offers knowledge on forecasting demand and services in an organization. Forecasting provides information on how business performed in the past and the way it will be in future.
As student, I would recommend that logistic, distribution and transport to be improved. Students should be explained the association of the three and how it will help them in daily basis when they open and run their own companies.
I commend that the course can be taught to all business courses because it gives practical experience to learners.
