Transnational crime has caused insecurity of nations and states across the international community, as claimed by some analysts. Several nations and states rely on each other for economic as well as social growth. However, insecurity caused by criminals hinders international development. Individual nations are incapable of enjoying the benefits of a peaceful international community. Each state, therefore, feels the need to boost its security in case such acts of crime arise. Such crime as trading humans for slavery, illegal transportation of goods across national borders, sex slavery, and terrorism offenses have been seen to pose risks to the nations involved.
As suggested by Naidu (2020), transnational crime causes great damage to global, national, and personal levels. Across the board, transnational organized crime becomes an obstacle to sustainable development. Crime degrades the already weak state and nations. Criminals bribe law enforcement officials to be allowed to run their activities. They have neutralized courts, purchased and intimidated politicians and journalists. Besides, they have also engaged business leaders in criminal activities as another strategy to perform their operations. The general security system is, therefore, devalued. Cumulatively, this has torn the social fabric and undermined the legitimacy of the states and nations. Legal, economic activities are driven out. Public security is, therefore, endangered.
As ascertained by Bigo (2020), transnational security is at a greater risk. An expansion of the criminal network is observed across national borders and caused due to a high crime rate. Bigo explains that these security threats experienced within the international community include illegal weapons. Terrorist attacks have also contributed to the insecurity of various nations and states. Other forms of threat include planned crime. Criminal activities through the use of computers and the internet are also rampant. Both natural and human-made disasters contribute to international insecurity. The analysis shows that only the rate of criminal offenses is on the increase. They have also modified various conducting their activities. A general increase in the risk of insecurity is felt by nations and states. Today these ultimatums have created a state of unrest in the international community. Most of the developing countries and states are more vulnerable to transnational crime as compared to more developed nations due to the weak rule of law.
Transnational crime has caused serious damage to the entire world Kutznetsova, Shuniaeva, Murkshtis (2020). Significant damage to the world’s financial system has been observed. In addition, the undermining of power and authority of the nations and states is on the increase. Criminals work towards eradicating law and order to enable them to pursue their interests. They have manipulated their way into the security and financial systems of the nations. On a daily basis, we receive services from these criminals as providers of governance and even security services. Crime is, therefore, easily overlooked. Eventually, this has threatened international stability and undermined free markets across the international community. Criminals have colluded with numerous important sectors of the economy.
According to Bueger, Edmund (2020), security threats such as violent extremism and various local and international conflicts may arise. Such threats hinder peaceful coexistence among states. The penetration of governments has promoted corruption, therefore undermining good governance. Political insecurity is therefore experienced. It is costly to make any investment in nations and states prone to criminal insecurity. Companies have to incur the cost of providing additional security measures to their investments. Investors are not assured of the level of security of the states affected. This generally has generally weakened the security system of the international community. The free movement of people, as well as goods, is restricted within security measures.
Transnational crime has also disrupted the global supply chain. Smuggling of goods has diversely affected the distribution of various products from one side of the continent to the other. The prosperity of various states is, therefore, threatened a great deal. Facilitating these threats are the people well known to us. A diversity of professionals such as Attorneys generals, bankers, and real estate brokers are some of the examples of the persons involved. They have provided services to both criminals and other citizens alike. It has now become a challenge to differentiate between legal and illegal business. Criminals are now protecting their reputations to maintain a deceptive image for their activities.
Criminals comprise a diversity of individuals with skills and knowledge. For instance, transnational networks rely on industry experts. The need to facilitate corrupt transactions is beyond a single entity; therefore, it needs collaboration. Criminals have created an infrastructure to pursue their illegal activities. Criminals have also created front businesses for their illegal activity and money laundering. Some of these business owners or bankers are enlisted to launder money. Employees of legitimate companies have also been used to conceal smuggling operations. Because of this, no one easily suspects any form of criminal operations undertaken.
All criminals ensure their personal security by collaborating with government officials in charge of security. The security system is threatened since they have to work with officials in charge of security to succeed with their deals. They also depend on documents obtained through fraud, such as passports and visas. It is through these forged documents that the criminals are able to move from one place to the other. For a transnational crime to be operational, international security has to be adjusted to accommodate the illicit activities. This is made possible by the persons in governance. They work hand in hand with these criminals. Transnational crime has risked the security system of the global world. It has inflicted harm to the international community as various development projects are hindered. Both immigration and emigration activities are also threatened due to the poor security system. Eradicating transnational crime would mean eliminating corrupt government officials who make crime happen.
