Is the president too powerful?
Introduction
The united state constitution gives the president powers according to article 2 of the constitution. These powers allow the president to carry out the presidential duties effectively.
The powers include; first, he is the commander in chief of the armed forces(The New York Times Theater Reviews). He is the chief military commandant of all military forces. This constitutional right allows him to have control over military personnel to give the command to the troops. He or she is the one with the mandate to launch nuclear weapons.
The president has executive powers that allow him/her to oversee national affairs and government priorities. The president can also issue executive orders that are in urgent need and do not need the approval of the senate,
The president is allowed by the constitution powers related to the law-making body in that he can decide to sign a bill that has been passed by the congress into law within ten days or he can decide not to and return it to the congress.
The president has the power to appoint people to occupy the federal positions the appointments are of white house staff, government agencies, and diplomatic corps(Lenz, and Holman page 58).
The president also has powers to forgive crimes officially reduce the sentence or even declare the release of already jailed persons.
The president can act on emergencies when they arise on behalf of the country without consulting congress.
The president has the power to withhold information concerning diplomatic affairs national security from the public court and congress. (Lenz, and Holman page60)
After accessing all these powers, it is right to conclude that it is true the president of the united state is too powerful(Lenz, and Holmanpage61)l. This is because the think tanks behind the constitution did not intend to make him as powerful as he is today because speculated the powers not knowing their magnitude.
The president has too many responsibilities to be given to one person. That is why many countries’ presidential power is divided among two or more individuals; the president and the prime minister. The United State large as it is has one president.
The ability of the president to pardon a convicted criminal is more of too much or more. It mocks the justice system but the president’s intention is constitutionally right.
The executive order makes the president a form of a dictator because his word becomes final, not subject to change. Sometimes the president can use this for personal interests.
History records that most presidents abuse power in one way or the other. They always find a way to manipulate the power given to achieve their preferred goals or for their own
Conclusion.
The president of the united state is not just powerful in the given country only but also in the rest of the world. The decisions he/she makes determines a lot in the world and hence needs to be careful about how he uses his powers.
