URBANIZATION
Urbanization helps advance the country’s trade and commerce sectors in that it leads to the availability of jobs, which leads to a diverse economy. Trade and commercialization offer towns and cities profitable business and employment opportunities in urban areas. A good network of goods and services helps develop modern commercial institutions, contributing to urban areas’ growth. This happens when people move from rural areas to urban areas to search for services found in urban areas to satisfy their needs. The high population in urban areas leads to developing a good transport and communication system that enables easy mobility, thus improving infrastructure.
In contrast, cities with tourist attraction sites create a tremendous foreign currency flow in the city economy. An increase in urbanization leads to a rise in culture and science activities. When different cultures interact and work together, there will be better education and living standards, projecting good social life and better recreational lifestyles. Hence It promotes the migration of people from rural to urban areas in search of better services.
Urbanization, however, on the other hand, also leads to housing issues due to the rapid flow of people in urban towns. This means that housing will be scarce because there will not be enough housing and public buildings. This will lead to more housing problems, unemployment, and an increase in poverty, making it impossible for some to afford their own home.
When more people relocate to urban areas, it encourages overcrowding, and this may lead to health hazards and environmental pollution in that when there is an increase in the number of people migrating to the congested cities in search of a better life, which causes overcrowding that lowers the sanitation of the area. A decrease in population in rural areas will decrease the number of workers left to work in the agricultural sector, which is a crucial factor in feeding the growing population in towns and cities.
