Subjective and Objective Writing Assignment

PART A: Subjective Writing

This part involves an interaction between a human services practitioner and his client, Lucy. The two had met for the first time, with Lucy seeking to get assistance from the practitioner to secure an employment opportunity and a referral for affordable housing. In this scenario, the practitioner, who is the writer, ended up describing Lucy in a derogatory manner. He started by talking about Lucy’s personality, where he was too judgmental of her. Upon Lucy’s arrival into his office, the writer began describing her appearance in offensive language. She said that Lucy had greasy hair and unhealthy skin color. Besides, he even suggested that Lucy was high on something.

The writer described how Lucy’s children were malnourished with unhealthy skin and frail-looking faces. He went ahead to insinuate racial discrimination against Lucy and her children by explaining how desperate they were for food and other necessities. He also described how the elder child, aged six, was climbing her mother’s lap indecently until the mother screamed at her, giving her some chewing gum to silence her. The writer did not show sympathy for the woes bedeviling Lucy but instead scolded her for being irresponsible and non-committed. For instance, he claimed that someone must have hit Lucy pretty hard, even though Lucy had disclosed to him that she fell down the stairs.

Lucy was determined to get a job and give her children a decent lifestyle and a better home to live in, but the writer did not provide a helping hand to facilitate all these. neither did he motivate her to keep trying. Instead, he was too judgmental of Lucy throughout the session. This kind of biasness affects communication between two parties, making it lack meritocracy and dilutes the effectiveness.

PART B (Burglary)

Having watched and analyzed the video on burglary, I have come up with the following findings. The video consists of four characters: the two police officers, the house owner, and the homeless people. At the onset, the door was opened to let in one of the homeless guys. After some time, the two policemen followed in and put the homeless person to explain some questions. The homeless guy told the police officers that he would enter the house due to the cold weather outside, which he could not withstand.

The homeless guy went ahead to narrate that he had checked in to get some sleep because he was feeling so dizzy. On their part, the police officers were too judgmental to listen to the guy. they did not believe the accounts being put forward by him. in the meantime, the house owner arrived at the scene. No sooner had he come than the police officers asked him to look around his property to ensure that everything was okay. The owner claimed that the packet of cigarettes that he had left on his table was missing. The police officers then alleged that the homeless guy was responsible for the package of cigarettes’ theft. They arrested the homeless guy and took him outside. In this scenario, the acts of the police are a clear indication of non-objective policing that is based on judgmental and not truthfulness and respect for the rule of law.
