Reflection essay
Introduction
As a nurse, one needs to work with others to provide extensive care. Therefore, teamwork is critical. I want to reflect on my experience while working as a group where effective communication and collaboration were fostered. I will infer to Kozlowski and Ilgen’s (2006) research on the processes contributing to effective teamwork.
Description
Our group consisted of 7 members. We were tasked with completing an assignment on IT. The first piece required exploring the subject’s dimensions, where each individual would present his views using a PowerPoint presentation. A group leader was appointed and assigned each independent member task.
Feelings and Evaluation
Before starting, I was feeling excited about how the experience would result in my personal development. However, there was anxious anticipation of meeting new people and interacting with them to accomplish the task before our set deadline. As propounded by Stein and Stein (2008), this is related to social anxiety.
In my view, cross-training resulted in members feeling more responsible for their contribution to the group. Each member was also supportive in providing help. I was able to feel confident and offer great work.
Conclusion and action plan
The essential element is influencing leadership and shared experience. Therefore, I can say that our group was able to accomplish the task as the work was subdivided into sub-units. Consequently, I would recommend that for teams to succeed, they should adopt cross-training.
