My cultural competence
As we wide up this course, numerous insights will have a lasting impact on our future career. I must interact with individual’s patients, groups, families, and populations from diverse backgrounds. Likewise, nurses ought to accommodate all patients regardless of their cultural practices or beliefs. The knowledge gained concerning transcultural nursing and the experience will enable me to practice in a global environment.
I will use the skills learned in this course to
work more effectively with diverse local clients. The concept of cultural competence was highly emphasized in this course. One of the significant time emphasized. In the process, we learned different educational models and approaches that will enable me to appreciate my cultural features and those of my clients. Exploring, understanding, and accepting sociocultural differences will impact my level of engagement in intercultural communications.
My cultural competence attitude and knowledge will help me assume my role as global citizens to address the existing and emerging global health challenges. This said, I would provide care in a clinically competent, safe, and culturally appropriate manner. Indeed, cultural competence knowledge has provided me with a more general perspective on cultural matters.
Moreover, I will use some of the lessons learned to establish excellent rapport with my patients. Assessing diverse patient’s needs cannot just happen without improved levels of communication. As such, I will use my cultural competence to inquire about patients’ needs and develop appropriate treatments and interventions. Finally, I am ready to cast out my stereotypes and myopic view of things. I will offer the best service to all, irrespective of their cultural status or
religious beliefs.
