Promotions
If there is clearly no other person who may be qualified and suitable for this position within the organisation or it is a position that falls under the exceptions above, the job will not be posted. The concerned supervisor will discuss with HR and necessary steps will be taken to transfer or promote the identified staff.
The unit head or supervisor’s recommendation will be given as the case may be and approved by senior management. SMT positions will be the responsibility of the Country Director.
Promotions may occur within a unit, across units, between country offices, or between country offices and HQ, where SMT positions are concerned. In this case, they will be known as internal transfers. Once the promotion/transfer is approved, HR will announce the same and communicate the process’s background to all staff.
Promotion from one grade to another is the responsibility of management, and such promotion shall be based on:
- Existence of a vacant position of higher grade
- Suitability of the candidate in terms of performance, conduct, experience, professional and other relevant qualifications.
