Paragraph
Junior Market
The Junior Market was launched on April 1, 2009, by the Jamaica Stock Exchange to motivate and stimulate investment in Jamaica’s entrepreneurship, employment, and economic growth. The Junior Market will enable investors to invest in genuine small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) that trade shares on a special JSE platform. This is an exciting way SMEs can use to raise capital and effectively contribute to Jamaican economic growth and development. The establishment of Junior Market was due to the collaborative efforts made by the Board of the JSE, the Government, the Financial Services Commission, and the Steering Committee that consists of major stakeholders. Ordinary and preferred shares are the securities listed in the JSE Junior Marker and represent different business sectors, including retail, manufacturing, service and real estate, leisure, and banking and finance.
US Market
The Jamaica Stock Exchange launched the US Dollar Equities Market On July 5, 2011, to allow Jamaican companies to list their shares in US dollars. The Market also allows trading and settlement to be made in the US dollar. The launch is the first in the English Caribbean region. It expands the JSE product offerings and more investment options for individuals interested in diversifying their portfolio through the Exchange. The rule of the Main Market of the Exchange governs the Market. The trading also takes place per the trading rules that apply to all securities listed on the JSE. Just like the other markets, settlements are done at T+2, and daily information is distributed on the market activities through the normal channels inclusive of the JSE website
