Why You Should Make Time for Self-Reflection (Even If You Hate Doing It)

The truth is that many people are so busy striving to move forward with their lives that they hardly take a moment to reflect on their lives. Additionally, we always forget to recognize the benefits of self-reflection and its impacts on our lives. In my opinion, self-reflection is among the best ways that an individual can shift their mindsets, discover a greater connection to oneself, and increase positivity in one’s life. Self-reflection focuses on bringing an individual’s attention to what is happening in their lives in a mindful and open-minded way. Self-reflection revolves around creating self-awareness. There are numerous ways of practicing self-reflection. One of the best ways of practicing self-reflection is through journaling. Journaling enables people to learn more about themselves by recognizing patterns, habits, and consistent themes in an individual’s life. The article by Jennifer Porter, Why You Should Make Time for Self-Reflection (Even If You Hate Doing It), plays an important role in understanding the current trends in executive development and the workplace. The article also enables us to understand the benefits of self-reflection. Here are some reasons we should make self-reflection a priority in our lives, even if we hate doing it.

Despite the numerous benefits of self-reflection, many leaders fail to self on their lives for many reasons. Some leaders do not understand the process of self-reflection. Many leaders always set time for self-reflection, but they always fail to follow their set self-reflection schedules. Besides failing to follow the time they set for self-reflection, some leaders do not understand what to do during self-reflection. For example, when I started self-reflection, I always failed to understand how to perform a self-reflection. I did not know the aspects of my life that needed reflection. This is the same case with the leaders; they do not know the specific actions that need self-reflection. Some leaders also do not like the process of self-reflection because it forces them to do numerous things that they do not like. Self-reflection always enables leaders to identify their strengths and weaknesses. In many cases, leaders do not like the process because it reminds them of their weaknesses.

The author also indicates that leaders do not like self-reflection because they do not like the process results. When leaders reflect, they also understand the things that they did better and their failures. In many cases, leaders do not like to recognize their weaknesses. Therefore, they always become defensive and ignore the results of the process. This is common with man people. People always do not like to see their weaknesses. Additionally, some people may have committed some past actions; they do not want to remember. For example, in the case of leaders, they may have made wrong decisions that affected their organization’s performance, or the action may have threatened their careers. Therefore, they always want to forget these actions and decisions under such cases because they remind the leaders about their weaknesses or characters that they would like to hide forever. In some cases, leaders do not self-reflect because they cannot see any good results. Leaders are always encouraged to invest in activities with a good return. Therefore, they may not create time for self-reflection because they will not receive any good results from the process.
