Education and Employment
Question 1
As we all are familiar that, communication is an essential part of our daily life. Without communication, we cannot share our feelings and frame of mind with others (Samovar et al., 2017). Communication is a crucial aspect which is being used in many different professions and our daily life (Lindlof, and Taylor, 2017). Thus, we could say that communication is a process through with information between two or more than two people is shared. Therefore, practical communication skills are fundamental in a professional context (Lemonnier, 2016). There are mainly two practical communication skills applicable in both the academic and professional context: verbal and non-verbal. Effective communication means a person’s ability to speak well and communicate in such an understandable way (Giles, 2016). Students at the university level need to adopt practical communication skills (Frye et al., 2018). As a student, I have learned that every student needs to adopt practical communication skills as they are essential at both the academic and professional levels (Bambaeeroo, and Shokrpour, 2017).
On the contrary, I also have learned that communicating with good skills is a decent and effective way to express our feelings and desires and motivate others. Also, if we communicate effectively, even with our children, a child will adopt good communication skills to flourish into adulthood (Samovar et al., 2017). During this course, I have learned that speaking with the most favourable tone influences how a speaker may communicate. Also, I have learned that speaking with the most favorable tone to keep the responses and explanations simple (Lindlof, and Taylor, 2017). Such words that speak keep the listener interested and involved. But, we also need to consider that effective communication is not only associated with listening and speaking (Lemonnier, 2016). It is as powerful as listening, and it is also incredibly crucial for such learners who feel difficulty communicating their ideas and feelings with others. In addition to this, the cultural background also plays a vital role in the learning environment (Frye et al., 2018).
On the contrary, an influential educator will model the correct sentence in such a way that is non-threatening to the children (Lindlof, and Taylor, 2017). We all are familiar because communication is such a phenomenon that refers to exchanging thoughts and ideas with such intentions that convey information. Effective communication is one of the best ways that consists of vocalisation as well as a gesture (Giles, 2016). The only purpose of effective communication is to deliver or convey one’s ideas, beliefs, thoughts, and needs effectively (Bambaeeroo, and Shokrpour, 2017). On the other hand, clear and effective communication is also essential whilst communicating with the interviewers. Likewise, effective communication also helps the students to enhance their ability and share their feelings too. On the contrary, a confident physical expression also helps the students to get their jobs more efficiently and to meet the competitive edge (Bambaeeroo, and Shokrpour, 2017). Hence, practical communication skills help students to build their career in their respective fields (Lemonnier, 2016).
Question 2
As a young and mature student with experience in an access course, I have realised that I had developed self-discipline, which is essential for maintaining individual performance, behaviour, and experience. Through this study, I have gradually developed and learned how to communicate effectively and what is essential to effective communication (Lemonnier, 2016). Employees play an essential role in the workplace as they demonstrate a wide variety of positive and negative behaviours (Giles, 2016). The American Psychological Association divides the importance of individual performance, behaviour, and experience into several categories: interpersonal skills, drive, dependability, and cooperation (Bambaeeroo, and Shokrpour, 2017). All of these behaviours have an important impact on the quantity and quality of work from an employee. During this study, I have learned that showing up for work is the first step in contributing to the work environment. If an individual does not show regularity at work, it will contribute that your performance is more likely to suffer (Giles, 2016). Thus, it is necessary to show regularity in the workplace for better performance (Lindlof and Taylor, 2017). The more you learn, the more you grow in the workplace. If a co-worker is absent, it’s the workload. It is put on the whole team. It’s the best time to show your best behaviour and performance by pushing yourself to exhibit exemplary attendance (Giles, 2016).
Similarly, I also have working experience in a small firm where I learned that whenever an individual finds it hard to go to work, you first need to figure out what’s bothering you (Giles, 2016). If you regularly miss your work, your performance will be down. When you show Irregularity at the workplace, you may also miss out on training opportunities to enhance your work performance (Lemonnier, 2016). To perform your role effectively, it is essential to separate your personal life from your work life. It will be quite challenging when you mix them both, as it will interfere with your performance behaviour (Frye et al., 2018).
Furthermore, improving your communication skills must be the top behavioural goal for employees (Bambaeeroo and Shokrpour, 2017). Communicating effectively at the workplace also enables you to show performance and behaviour (Lemonnier, 2016). This knowledge and information have given me an insight that what can be carried out at the workplace to show your best performance (Giles, 2016). I now understand that keeping yourself up to date is essential to interact with co-works, supervisors, and clients effectively.
