Chain of Custody
Chain of Custody refers to the logical sequence that accounts the chain of custody, authorities, transmits, and examine physical or electronic evidence in different cases. The chain of custody is most important procedure of evidence storage for later use. It is a must to ensure that the court of law evidence’s is genuine. A document is preserved so that the person the person to testify in court can easily get the evidence to testify when summoned for trial. Documentation of evidence is preserved for demonstration of exhibit in court.
First course of action If errors are identified in the document, it should be rectified by a single crossed line and putting the right needed facts. The person making the change should ensure its dated correctly and more ever it should be the person who is responsible for the error.
Situations can be fixed It can be fixed by ensuring that materials to be transferred must contain a unique seal for safety and confidential .This is after correction of the error incurred have been made. The sample should be transported with the identification number of the document .It must be taken with proper procure and handling for security purposes and
confidential of the sample in question.
This is not acceptable for court This is not right because its unproffecianal for the evidence which is critical for the case to be tempered with. So its important that the people dealing with the handling and maintaining chain of custody of evidence ,do it with integrity and honesty to enable justice to prevail in the rule of law.
