Gothic Research Paper

Gothic is the literature mode and film that involves romance, death, fiction, and horror. Gothic is attributed to an English author in his novel, the caste of the ontronto. The fiction tends to emphasize the pleasurable terror and also the emotions.

The castle of ontronto was the first novel to be written, and it has greatly aided in shaping the present day novels. Horrific events were being painted in the mind of readers as supernatural beings with extreme power and authority. Ancestral curses and threatening mysteries were used as generic Gothic traits and trappings in the form of hidden passages, and oft-fainting heroines (Crossly p, 2017 ) were being used.

Wells, water bodies, including left alone quarries, were highly used as crime sites signifying the importance of depths in Gothic novels and their presence. The search for the secret in sensation novels was much modeled on its Gothic predecessors (Josh and Deshmukh,2018 ). Bodies and texts recording the crimes of the past are buried, dug up, and read.  Victorian Gothic drama is well examined by recognizing that it was not a ‘pure’ genre, but rather a hybridized form that made use of several formulaic ‘Gothic devices,’ such as the foreboding or premonitory dream, the uncanny double, the confusion between the real and the fantastic, the devilish villain with quasi-supernatural powers, and the use of cathedrals or exotic locales as settings (Crossly p, 2017 ).

Jane eyre a Victorian gothic

Jane eyre was used as a female in this writing to symbolize the female language. It also shows the search for identity and the rebellion the women were going through. The heroic use of Jane in the 19th century suggested the agency that the girl child needed at that time.

The Dracula hound

This happened; it was discovered that there was a strange thing that was killing dogs. The dogs would later wake up as vampires. Vampires would later fest on people, and this was shown when a dog was being transported in a casket, an earthquake occurred , the casket fell from the car and opened up, the watchman would later see the dead dog waking up.

How does the Victorian Gothic ( Jane Eyre, Dracula Hound, and Dorian Gray ) differ from the earliest Gothic?

The earliest gothic used extraordinary imageries to pass the frightening message and hidden meaning of wording to pass across a warning message. In the Victorian gothic, females symbolize the struggle women were going through and the need for their identity in society. Jane Eyres’s prowess depicts that women are capable of doing great things.

What changes have manifested in that time, and why? Focusing on an aspect of the gothic.

In the Victorian gothic, we are told that wells, water bodies and leftover quaries are used to eliminate people. Those who talk about the truth are eliminated. The recordings are being hidden from the general public’s eyes. This is not the case as in the earliest gothic where frightening tales of giants and hidden meaning of messages were used. Jane Eyre is used as a female actor with great prowess, which showed women were capable at that time. She also shows that women need a space in society that they were denied.
