Job Description
The Med-win Cares hospital is looking to hire a professional medical coder to assign accurate medical coding describing the service received by a patient in the health facility. He or she should ensure that the medical codes are used correctly during a patient’s billing process. It includes assigning the correct codes, retrieving the documented information, and creating claims for insurance payments.
Duties and responsibilities
The medical coder should:
- Sequence and assign codes for all services received by patients
- Conduct coding audits to make sure all the documentation are precise and accurate
- Work with the billing department to make sure all bills are accurate and timely
- Provide statistical data to other departments for research and analysis
- Correct coding disputes and errors encountered with insurance companies
Required Education, Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of two years’ experience in medical coding
- College certification before the hire date
- Outstanding 10-key typing accuracy and speed
- Excellent skills in mathematics and statistics
- High level of good customer service
- Knowledge of ICD-9 procedures and codes

TRAINING
Coding requires a lot of skills and detail, and the coder should have a foundation in physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology. The hospital offers in-house code training, which lasts at least two weeks to a month. The coder should provide a certification of a completed out of office training from a known institution.
