Climate Change Policy Solutions
The process of fully understanding the magnitude of the effects caused by climate change requires in-depth knowledge and interest in the climate change topic. Many people often ignore climate change because they choose to ignore or just because they can’t participate in events they can’t instantly see the outcome. Governments and institutions have the chance of coming up with policies and implementing them in favor of controlling climate change. Such policies can be easily adhered to by the citizens and even employees in an organization.
One of the major causes of climate change is the greenhouse effect caused by the increasing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The gases are dangerous to human beings and wildlife, animals, and even the vegetation (Shurpali, Agarwal & Srivastava, 2018). Many people argue that greenhouse gases have always been there in the atmosphere, that’s right, but the levels of the gases in the atmosphere are skyrocketing to dangerous levels because of the lifestyles and industrial practices of human beings. There are many solutions to problems. All the solutions involve policy-making, which will guide many people, preferably all the people, since few peoples’ efforts can stop the greenhouse effect but rather collective effort. The levels allowed for carbon emission in the carbon permit emission should be reduced and regularly monitored. Considering the number of industries and manufacturing plants emitting greenhouse gases, their levels will be excessive within a short period, and thereby the policies allowing the emission of the gases should be adjusted to reduce the allowed levels of gases to be emitted (Hegerl et al. 2019). Other solutions include advising people to drive less and drive smart to avoid exhaust fumes’ emission with add up the levels of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Planting trees, changing lighting systems to more environmentally friendly means, and the policy of reuse, reduce, and recycle. It is the task of politicians and policymakers to ensure that the citizens follow the policies and encourage them to follow the suggested solutions to reduce the levels of greenhouse gas emissions (George, Bruzzese & Matura, 2017).
Deforestation is another major cause of climate change. Natural vegetation and even the manmade forests are being destroyed for wood fuel and even for timber, and the process leaves the land bare and exposed to soil erosion. To stop deforestation, some policies which mainly focus on protecting the forests and ensuring that deforestation is stopped should be made. The policies could involve strict rules which attract heavy punishment when bridged; for instance, people found illegally cutting down trees can be heavily punished in the legal system courts. Such policies should be strengthened with incentives by promising the citizens a reward when they report deforestation activity.
The policies made can sometimes be hard to follow, or the citizens are adamantly refusing to follow the policies. Incentives could motivate the people to follow the policies; for instance, the government and even the policymakers can promise a reward for those who can plant many trees in their localities. Such incentives will make people strive to plant many trees, and in the process, the number of trees will increase and thus reduce the levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
