Because sociology requires that every preconceived hypothesis be tested and verified, actual empirical evidence tells us. Assumptions about the way of life are common, and if you heavily rely on this, it means you are not reasoning like a sociologist.

Naturally, I’m a curious individual, and this plays out well sociologically. It can be disturbing to find out that many of the answers we thought we had figured about life turn out to be less as useful as we might have thought they would be.

Sociologically it’s always important to acknowledge that assumptions are generally one’s opinions and that sometimes they could be off or, in some instances, absolutely irrelevant, so it is advisable for individuals always to ask more questions.
What is at least one potential benefit to thinking like a sociologist?
In contrast to conventional wisdom, reasoning like a sociologist examines claims and beliefs about particular phenomena critically, considers many points of view, and enables us to move beyond established ways of thinking.
