Art
Just like Kutlug Ataman’s “Küba, 2004. 40-channel video installation with tables and chairs; color, sound” Duchamp’s art serves a function. Art is expected to be used in some contexts; to be spiritually compelling, to support, entertain, to educate, to enrich and inspire lives, or dissent a prevailing power structure. Ataman’s is an emotional and life-encouraging artwork that is apt for the strains and cries evidently in the current world4 . Fountain, on the other hand, serves the purpose of challenging the traditional notions of art as a means of satisfying the eye or conveying a message and also perplexing the concept of aesthetic in art. It is an artistic creation that solely defines the concepts surrounding an object. This purpose is also comparable to The Tlaloc vessel-a ceramic pot that has a face on it. The artwork was not meant to be viewed as fine decorations but was used in Aztec religious rituals. In addition, the Dong Son Drum was a craft when it was made as a symbol of ancient Vietnam culture. However, it is considered fine art because of the sophisticated patterns depicting the daily life of people during the period and also shows the artistic skills of the sculptors.
