Role of the RN/PRN in Policy Making

As one of the largest groups of professionals globally is registered nurses. RNs and APRNs working as managers are positioned to inspire and encourage changes to the public health policy domain and influence decision-making at local, national, and state levels. Many opportunities exist for RNS and APRNs in taking part in the policy making process. Despite taking part in the policy decision-making process, they are also at the frontline in providing effective medical (Doctors of Nursing Practice, 2020). In doing this, registered nurses have a significant role in promoting health care policy development, analysis, advocacy, and implementation. RNs managers play a critical role in making an informed decision that affects healthcare policy influencers. This is because registered nurses are guided by ethical and moral responsibilities while engaging in policy and political decisions to better their patients’ lives. In their workplace, registered nurses and the ARNS are actively involved in deciding which policies should be implemented.

RNs and APRNs enjoy a wide array of opportunities in their workplace. The first opportunity that RNs and APRNs take part in policy review in different organizations such as the American Nursing organization and American Academy Of Nursing. They promote the implementation of effective policies that favor them. Another opportunity for RNs and APRNs is to have the responsibility and ability to influence prospects and existing healthcare delivery plans (Doctors of Nursing Practice, 2020). By driving these implementation measures, they play a critical role in promoting high-quality healthcare services. The major challenge presented to the RNs and APRNs in professional organizational is membership. Research conducted by sigma revealed that many nurses are not registered with professional organizations. This is due to the complexity involved in joining the organizations. The leadership in nursing organizations is another major challenge and calls for reforms.

Opportunities in the workplace also present a serious challenge when it comes to policy updates. Nurses should remain updated on the changes initiated and implementation measures taken. The workplace also is characterized by disunity amongst members (CONGRESS .GOV, 2020). This calls for unit amongst nursing to fight for their rights. Nursing leadership should be addressed in the workplace to ensure it touches on key issues affecting its members. Strategies that can bring changes in the nursing profession is promoting training and good leadership. Nurses with effective training offer the best services to their patients. On the other hand, good leadership promotes issues that affect nurses’ welfare pushing to implement key issues affecting nurses.
