TYPES OF BIRTH CONTOLS
Birth control is also known as contraception or fertility control. It may be a device or a method that is used to prevent pregnancy. There are different forms of contraception including contraceptive implant. This is a type of a hormonal birth control. It is implanted under the skin on the upper arm by a doctor or a nurse. It releases progestrogen in the bloodstream and prevents pregnancy for up to three years. Its major advantage is that implants are easy to remove and allows pregnancy to occur naturally. Implants do not offer protection on sexually transmitted infections. The other type of of birth control is contraceptive injection. The injection contains hormones similar to the ones produced by the ovaries and lasts for 12-14 weeks. The injection works by preventing the ovaries from releasing an egg monthly. It also thickens the fluid at the cervix preventing the sperm from entering. The injection is not affected by other medication. It may cause reaction on the injected part.
The other type is the contraceptive patch. The patch is worn on certain parts of the body and releases a hormone through the skin that prevents pregnancy. It works perfectly if used correctly. Major advantage is it does not come off on exposure to water or sweat. It causes skin irritation on some users. Vaginal ring is another type of control. It is a soft flexible ring that is placed inside the vagina. It releases hormones that prevents pregnancy. The ring regulates periods and makes them regular but may cause temporary side effects like nausea and headaches. Lastly we have vasectomy. This is a permanent form of contraception. The male vasa differentia is cut and sealed to prevent the sperm from entering the urethra hence preventing pregnancy through sexual intercourse. It is the cheapest form of birth control compared to the others. It may cause bleeding inside the scrotum.
