The two distinct populations in my country that I identified for this essay include children from street families and children from the majority white population. Assessing the differences between these two groups can help locate some healthcare gaps that need to be filled in each community. The income between the two groups shows a vast disparity. Street families have no income and have to rely on donations or help from members of the public. The other population has high incomes, which also leads to considerable disparities in access and affordability of healthcare for each community. Children from street families have limited access to healthcare services since their families have no incomes. On the other hand, children from white families have enhanced access to healthcare, which means that their healthcare goals are easily achievable.
Nurses can come up with several ways that may be used to address some of the disparities that have been identified above. One of the methods is providing information to street families about some of the community outreach and support programs available. A nurse may have such information or ask for it from local authorities that could be aiming to help street families that are in distress. A nurse may also address the healthcare gaps of children from street families by encouraging them to seek their children’s medical services. Street families may shy away from medical institutions because they do not have medical insurance or money to pay for medical assistance (Andrews, Boyle, & Collins, 2020). However, many institutions have programs that are supposed to cater to these families for free. Encouraging these families to seek medical attention may help address some of the gaps in these populations. These interventions would be critical in helping promote access to healthcare services for the marginalized community.
